One of the keys to career success is passion, particularly in recruitment when you’re helping candidates find their ideal job. Here, Claire Valentine, Recruitment Consultant for Real Staffing in our Dublin office, speaks about her career with purpose.
How would you describe your job to someone who doesn’t work in recruitment?
My job is to build relationships with individuals so I can support them, whether they’re looking to find their next job or hire on their team. I am a trusted advisor to both candidates and clients on trends within my core area, in order to best support their needs.
I work with clients and try to help them find the right person for their current openings. This involves fully understanding the job, the team dynamics and the culture of each business, in order to find the person who’s most suited from a technical and cultural perspective.
The candidates I work with place a lot of trust in me as I help ensure their next job is a good fit for them and something they’re excited about. Moving jobs is one of the most important things we do in life. My job is to support someone throughout that process to make it as stress free as possible.
What are you most passionate about in your job?
I’m passionate about helping people. I genuinely enjoy coming to work every day, knowing I can make a positive change in someone’s life. I’m also passionate about understanding the market I work in, as this allows me to have in-depth conversations with the people I speak to. The more I understand about the industry, the better I can support the companies and candidates I work with.
What industry do you recruit for?
I recruit for the Pharmaceutical and Biotech industry. The products created by the companies we work with have life improving implications for many people across the world.
In Ireland, the operations are predominately manufacturing. This means when a product is ready to be manufactured, it’s transferred to Ireland to be mass-produced and exported for sale. The companies we work with are at the final stage of a product life cycle before it goes to market.
Why are you proud to be part of this industry?
It’s a very rewarding industry to work in. Although I’m not a scientist, the work I do on a daily basis helps the success of these companies. Hearing about the ground-breaking work these companies do gives me a great sense of purpose in my job. I’m extremely proud to be representing certain companies or new products on the market.
What is your favourite placement story?
I was working on a Quality Executive position with a leading pharmaceutical company. Their main product is a skincare range for dermatology. The candidate I found felt this was a perfect fit for her experience and was in a better location for her. At the time, her six-year-old daughter was travelling up to four hours a day for school as they’d moved to North Dublin for her current position.
I asked her about her motivations to work for this company and she told me that she and her children suffer very badly with psoriasis and the product they use is made by this company.
When the candidate was offered the job, she said she was so happy to be working for a company that had a direct benefit to her and her children and she couldn’t wait to be a part of it.
