The International Day of Charity is held every year on September 5th. It takes place on the day of Mother Theresa’s death and is designed to raise awareness of the need for charity and helping others. On this day, educational events and fundraising activities take place all over the world.
At SThree, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an important subject and a priority that’s firmly embedded in our business culture. We spoke with our CSR champion and Senior Candidate Consultant in Munich, Wolfgang Latton, to find out why CSR is so important.
What do you do at SThree and how long have you worked there?
I started working for SThree in September 2015 as Manager of Candidate Relations. In my role, I oversee the management of applicants in the network and infrastructure and business intelligence areas.
What does Corporate Social Responsibility mean to you personally, and how is it implemented at SThree?
From my point of view, CSR is an important topic. I believe if things are going well for you personally, then you have a responsibility. I’m very grateful that this subject is supported by our senior management and actually being put into practice and taken seriously at SThree. It’s firmly embedded in our business values.
What are the challenges of implementing CSR in a corporate culture and what are the benefits brought by overcoming these challenges?
Communication is extremely important. I also feel that regularity is indispensable. At the same time, I can’t forget the motivated employees who get involved and who personally feel strongly about this subject. Here in the DACH Region, which I oversee, I have a very good team with lots of ideas and a drive for action.
There are many different benefits for a company. It starts with the acquisition of talented individuals who have chosen a specific employer because of its social commitment. It makes a lasting impression on company culture and leads to motivation. Other benefits are meeting interesting contacts and the opportunity to collaborate with other companies.
Are there any areas that you would like to give greater support to?
These days, there are so many areas you can get involved in. At the moment we cover a broad spectrum. We assist people who have difficulty finding work, support local social institutions, prepare school children for the world of work, support organisations through donations, take part in sporting events for good causes and so on. However, one area in which I believe more must be done in general, is that of the environment. We still take this for granted far too much.
SThree fosters a ‘because it matters’ culture. In addition to CSR, what other aspects have given rise to this?
Definitely the diversity within SThree. One of the reasons I feel so comfortable here is because I have many different colleagues - I really value that!
Transparency is also a key subject. Transparent career objectives and a clear structure make everything more tangible for staff.
Finally, in 3 words, describe what else makes SThree so special to you.
Energy, diversity, and team spirit.
