There are two aspects of a career at SThree and our recruitment brands which both current and former employees tell us they value the most: the endless opportunities to progress your career, and our firm commitment to inclusion and diversity.
Many of our recruitment consultants say they chose a career at SThree because they had heard about the high quality of our training and development offerings, while others read about or met one of our senior managers, such as our CEO Gary Elden, who climbed the ladder to the top of the business regardless of their ethnicity or gender.
Our training, one of the best in the industry
Someone who has turned down various other positions in favour of starting with us and taking advantage of our employee offerings is Taz Khan, now Senior Recruitment Consultant at SThree brand Computer Futures in London, specialising in placing health care nurses within the NHS market.
“I was really keen to start at SThree. While I had many offers from other agencies, I was drawn in by the career opportunities and how you can progress within this FTSE listed organisation. I also knew that the training is one of the best in the industry.”
But it wasn’t just the initial training and potential for progression which helped Taz make the decision in favour of SThree.
“SThree offer people at all levels in the organisation a great rewards package to incentivise their performance, whether it’s shopping vouchers, holidays or car allowances – there is something for everyone. It’s really encouraging when you’re being rewarded for your hard work!”
Besides clear career progression and future opportunities, it was SThree’s commitment to creating an inclusive and diverse work culture which truly impressed Taz.
“I read a feature about Emily, one of our female Business Managers at Computer Futures, which inspired me. I always thought the recruitment landscape is still lacking diversity, and I was wondering if I would be a good fit and feel welcomed.”
“I also explored the Board of Directors at SThree and there were both women and men from different backgrounds and ethnicities. For me that felt refreshingly diverse and I thought ‘here I can create an amazing career for myself, can do well and move up the ladder’.”
Bearing the fruits after a difficult start
While Taz, who started with SThree in May 2015, has always kept in mind the bigger picture and the future vision of his career, his first six months as a recruiter weren’t always easy.
“In my first months with the company, I didn’t place any candidates; it was a tough time for my market and myself. What helped me massively was that my managers Danny and Vai were really fighting my corner, encouraged me to stay and supported me in growing with instead of being demoralised by this experience.”
And then it all happened at once for Taz.
“There was a change in my market and within the first three weeks I found someone a new role; three months later I got my first promotion, followed by another promotion five months after that.”
“2016 was really my year! I received various awards, not only ‘Most Valued Person’ but also the ‘Computer Futures contract 0-24 months Consultant of the Year’ and then the ‘SThree 0-24 months Consultant of the Year’ for the UK&I. I had a fantastic journey and a lot of credit for that goes to the great management team here.”
Proactively heading in the right career direction
When asked about his secrets for success, Taz mentions the fact that people often give up before they realise their true potential.
“It’s about resilience, the right mindset and being proactive, but resilience comes in many different ways. So ask your manager, or someone else who’s done really well what they think your strengths are and how you can improve. I know that every one of our managers is happy to give advice and help you on that journey.”
But for Taz it’s also about treasuring the relationships with his candidates: “You are in regular contact with these people, you get to know their families and even get invited to family events. You become a part of their lives!”
