At SThree and across all of our specialist recruitment brands, we work tirelessly to ensure our people receive the best possible training to equip them with everything they need to build a successful career.
Our dedicated in-house learning and development team create different variations of our training offering to make it as customised and relevant as possible to our recruiters.
Recruitfit Survive, one of SThree’s successful training programmes has strengthened the excellent reputation we have for training our recruiters. The induction training programme is a two day course centred on building relationships with our customers through experiential learning.
We speak with Ahmet Timur who has recently joined our teams as a Recruitment Consultant at SThree brand Real specialising in banking and financial services and asked him how this training helped him in his career.
Support at SThree: the training gets you thinking in a different dimension
“Throughout the interview process and induction training, SThree gave me amazing support that I wouldn’t receive at any other company. The people were encouraging and right from the beginning when I had my interview, my manager gave me advice from understanding the motivations of people to achieving success and how it’s an equal contribution between myself and the company.
“The training at SThree has been brilliant, you may feel that you do things naturally, without realising it and the training gets you thinking in a different dimension. Not just by asking the straightforward questions but understanding the needs and motivations of your candidates; ultimately trying to see things from their perspective.
“I also really enjoyed the energizers and the constant questioning. It was getting me to think why have I used certain words or asked certain questions. I started to evaluate the approach I was taking to my work and my customers. From tone of voice during conversations, your level of energy, and how you’re dealing with objections appropriately. It got me thinking. There are going to be challenges in any interaction, but I was given the toolkit to handle them and build stronger relationships.
“I’ve had more training in the last three weeks than I’ve had in my whole career. It’s a great structure, I’ve had webinars, one-on-one coaching, and group training so far and I’m looking forward to what’s coming next,” says Ahmet.
A career with no limits: helping me be more successful at work
“It’s been reassuring to know we are all part of one team, achieving the same goals. I’ve had so much support, the team have offered to help me with reading CVs, specifying jobs, setting up my emails. I couldn’t have asked for a better work environment.
“My career at SThree is going from strength to strength and contributing a great deal to my personal development and helping me be more successful at work. I’ve used the Empathy, Question, Solve and Close approach when I was facing objections from customers which has been helpful and important to understand. It’s their motivation that counts in the end.
“I started to dig deeper when dealing with people, asking about them and understanding their motivators, what they really want and why. I was committed to really finding out who they are. They’re not just a CV, they’re an individual. Each person has different motivators whether that’s family, kids, relocation, personal development, salary or something else. When you connect with someone and understand this, they will remember you and want to work with you because what’s important to them becomes important to you,” says Ahmet.
Advice for future recruiters: Dive in and don’t be scared!
“If you haven’t done the training you need to get started so you learn how to progress. If you’re new to the business you’ll really enjoy it. It’s been great learning negotiation tactics, how to talk to people, handling objections. The training will definitely add to your skillset.
“Every experience and interaction is different, making recruitment a very energetic and rewarding career. I recently worked with a candidate who I was able to provide a personalised service to and support his career. Where other agencies have dismissed his CV assuming that he’s not the right fit because of the short duration of his contract, I took the time to understand him and the reasons behind his career path. We’ve connected on a personal level and I’m happy to help him with trying to secure a role with our clients. We’re meeting up next week for a coffee to discuss next steps.
“On my first day, I didn’t know any of the sales terminology, the structure of the business or any sales approaches. I didn’t even want to look at a phone because I didn’t know what to say if I had to talk to someone. I was worried and uncertain about what I had got myself into. Now I’m on the phone for 45 minutes discussing all sorts of roles with candidates. It’s brilliant and I love every second of it,” concludes Ahmet.
