We asked four participants from IdentiFy, our women in leadership programme, to share some of the things they’ve taken away from the programme to help them progress their career.
Here are three tips everyone can benefit from:
1. Ask for a sponsor
“Having a sponsor who you can really trust is key. My sponsor has taught me to aim high, have a vision and tell my management team where I want to go and how I’m going to get there,” said Natascha Loeffler, from our office in Stuttgart. “Before the programme, I was more reserved regarding my possibilities and career options”.
“It’s better if the sponsor has different capabilities, thinks differently to you and can challenge your thoughts and ideas. They need to be able to set time aside without any distractions,” added Jacquelyn Vinnedge, from our Washington DC office.
2. Develop your self-awareness
“One of the best things so far is the strength finder exercise,” recalls Margot van Soest, from our office in Amsterdam. “Realising I’m a lot stronger that I originally thought really made me feel empowered and gave me much more confidence”.
“I’ve made a real effort to play to my strengths and have accepted the things that maybe don’t come naturally to me. I have also become more aware of how important it is for women to support, encourage and promote each other,” added Adele McIntyre, from our Dublin office.
3. Use your network
“Running ideas by my new IdentiFy internal network helped me set the office culture when we opened the new Washington DC office”, commented Jacquelyn. “I also joined an external Women in Tech group and hosted a round table event. As IdentiFy ties in with what the group is doing to attract more women to the tech industry, this has impressed our clients”.
“The senior women in Stuttgart have a networking group and we sit down together regularly to discuss challenges and successes,” added Natascha “and anybody can do that across the SThree business.”
