So when Thibault Beuken, Senior Business Manager at SThree brand Huxley (also known as the Chief Happiness Officer), decided he wanted to further drive diversity in the Luxembourg office, we were excited about the idea.
Recruiting the best talent – wherever they’re from
In Luxembourg, being a non-EU citizen means finding a job in the city can be difficult. This is mostly due to a lack of knowledge and advice on how to get a work permit.
And that’s where Thibault’s initiative comes in… By starting a partnership with Bénédicte Souy-Cour, experts in work permits and relocation, Thibault found a way to make the process of hiring non-EU citizens in Luxembourg easier and smoother. Bénédicte Souy-Cour provide advice for businesses and candidates, making sure our local consultants are able to recruit the best talent – wherever they’re from.
Our Huxley Luxembourg team are the first recruitment firm to embrace such an initiative and, because of this, their talent pool for vacancies has increased significantly. This also holds advantages for our clients who get access to a wider and more diverse pool of candidates.
So how did Thibault come up with the idea..?
Firstly, he was made aware of the idea of opening up opportunities for non-EU citizens by listening to Hamza, one of our young Trainee Consultant of Algerian origin, who had personally experienced a similarly difficult situation. This conversation made Thibault think.
“Imagine there are 10 people from different backgrounds sitting in a circle and, in the middle of the circle, there’s another person sitting on a chair. Who has the best view..? It’s the person sitting in the middle who gets to see 10 different people with 10 different backgrounds. Getting as many different backgrounds as possible in a business gives you a clearer view of the world.”
It creates a happier team, too. If you can help people grow on both a professional and personal level, you’ll find productivity and engagement increases, and staff stay longer in the company.
Spotlight on diversity in the workplace
It’s as simple as believing that everyone should work together, whatever their background. Thibault decided to find new ways of doing things and make it happen, which is exactly what he did.
Diversity in the workplace is important; different nationalities, age, backgrounds, and beliefs help to strengthen the team and, ultimately, the business. It creates something extraordinary and that’s why Huxley, one of the largest recruitment agencies in Luxembourg, live and breathe diversity every day.
“We have a major responsibility to think differently; to help people get the opportunities they deserve. And to find people jobs, you need to tackle the belief that people can’t do it based on their nationality or background. Recruitment consultants need to think outside the box.”
