For many of us, the opportunity for career progression is one of the most important things on our mind when starting a new job. That’s why we’re committed to working with our employees, ensuring they’re supported and can continually develop within their role.
We spoke with Lucy Crowell, Senior Recruitment Consultant about her development and progression within Huxley, part of the SThree Group.
She travelled to London after finishing University in search of an exciting career and after the initial stress of finding somewhere to live and looking for a job, not only did Lucy discover the ultimate transport app City Mapper, but she also discovered SThree!
Building relationships within a supportive environment
Having begun her career at Huxley as a Trainee Recruitment Consultant straight out of Uni, Lucy has developed into a Senior Consultant and also manages a Candidate Acquisition Consultant.
She has now been with Huxley for three years and admits her success is a result of “staying positive, reminding myself what my personal goals are, and having the mentality to never give up.”
Lucy also speaks positively about the support and encouragement she’s received from her managers, “I’m comfortable seeking guidance from others regardless of their seniority. It’s an equal platform, meaning I can become the best recruiter I can be by learning from others.”
She went on to explain that working alongside colleagues who are enthusiastic and confident means she inevitably picks up skills that she can then adapt to her own working style.
Supporting career progression within a specific industry
Whilst there are highs and lows in the continually evolving banking and finance market, Lucy says “you need to work on adjusting your business plan to make sure you’re doing all you can to achieve your full potential.”
Lucy highlights that her drive to succeed and climb the ladder is encouraged and supported by her managers, who have always taken the time to listen, give advice and stand by her. It’s thanks to this support that Lucy has progressed both professionally and personally.
Diversity, inclusion and gender equality in the workplace
First impressions count, and Lucy’s instinct to join Huxley was motivated by the people she met during the interview process, “I wanted to be surrounded by the best, but also around people I knew I’d be able to speak to and connect with.”
Many of Lucy’s role models at Huxley are female and have come from various different backgrounds, with some holding very senior positions. Diversity and inclusion are at the heart of SThree and all of our brands; something that’s extremely important to Lucy, as is maternity leave, because it highlights that you can have a successful career and a balanced family life at SThree.
“SThree are very helpful and supportive with maternity leave, and more mums return to work because of the flexible arrangements that can be made.”
Lucy would highly recommend working for Huxley, for the positive working environment, supportive values and definitely for the diverse career prospects.
