SThree is extremely proud of its operations in Germany. We opened our first office in Germany in Frankfurt in 2002 and we’ve since added bases in Munich, Dusseldorf, Stuttgart, Hamburg and most recently in Berlin.
Just as Germany is the powerhouse of the European economy our German operations sit at the heart of our DACH region, which also includes Austria and Switzerland.
We asked our colleagues in Germany what they like so much about working in each of the offices and what a career there can offer.
If you’re new to Frankfurt then prepare to be impressed, with its Manhattan-style appearance Frankfurt is a city that runs on money. The financial district is home to around 400 finance companies and alongside the silver towers of Deutsche Bank you’ll find the sky-scrapers of the likes of Commerzbank and Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen as well as Citibank, Chase Manhattan, HSBC, ABN Amro and Goldman Sachs dominate the city skyline. It’s not a big town but it’s certainly exciting.
It’s also home to SThree’s DACH operations and as well as the 100 or so recruiters who work for Real Staffing, Huxley Associates and Computer Futures. Frankfurt is also home to our HR, Legal, Learning & Development and other support services for the region.
Constanze Hendrikson, Senior Consultant at Huxley Associates in Frankfurt is a big fan of the city: "Even when I was a little girl, Frankfurt always held a special place for me. The blend of the modern skyline and the old quarters like the West End and North End have an appeal of their own. Frankfurt has the presence of a big city combined with the charm of a town.”
Just as there’s more to the city’s economy than finance with advertising, media, communications, business consulting and a host of other industries well represented, there’s also more to life there than just commerce. It has a rich cultural life as well with museums, parks, concert halls and a hugely cosmopolitan population adding to the glamour of one of Europe’s most attractive places to live.
Dusseldorf and Munich
If Frankfurt is finance then Dusseldorf and Munich are all about IT and engineering with a strong showing for the life science sector too. Both locations are home to SThree’s Computer Futures and Progressive brands and are by far our largest locations based on number of employees.
For Martin Hunglinger, Senior Recruitment Consultant with Progressive, Munich offers something different to anywhere else in Germany, “Munich has that special something, be it as an attractive place to do business, it’s closeness to nature and the mountains, the beer gardens or just the mix of different cultures. It’s known as the most northerly city of Italy and has a charm all its own that makes it a great place to work.”
The Munich office is home to around 180 recruiters, while in Dusseldorf there’s a team of roughly 120. The local economy is strong in telecommunications, finance as well as manufacturing with some well-known companies based there including Vodafone, Nokia, Henkel and Tissen Krupp. Clemens Brandt-Pollmann, Senior Business Manager in Dusseldorf believes that the city is a perfect place to build a great career and have fun, “the whole team here help to build a great atmosphere and we support each other in and outside of work which is an important aspect of the feeling of togetherness we share.”
Stuttgart and Hamburg
Our Stuttgart and Hamburg offices both house around 65 consultants who work for both Progressive and Computer Futures. They’re newer offices than Dusseldorf and Munich and offer our people there a great opportunity to grow their careers.
Katrin Kipp has been at Computer Futures in Stuttgart for around seven years and has helped build several teams there, "I am fortunate to be able to work alongside such talented, friendly and motivated colleagues. That’s why it’s fun to work here every single day and achieve our goals together. Stuttgart is a relatively "young" location and as as a result I still see a lot of potential for development for us here."
Daniel Golthammer joined SThree in 2009, he’s worked his way up to become a Business Manager at Computer Futures in Hamburg and is full of praise for his team and their attitude, "Each member is positive, solution-oriented and interested in everyone's success. Interest in people and their development is especially important in Hamburg - at SThree the focus is on strengths rather than weaknesses.” It’s not all about work though and he adds with a smile that “the Doppelkopf and table football evenings are thoroughly enjoyable."
Finally, there’s Berlin, our newest office in the DACH region. Although there are currently only around 20 or so consultants there, it’s an incredibly diverse and supportive team with colleagues from 12 nations working together.
Sabine Hässler, Senior Recruitment Consultant in Berlin is passionate about her role and the group. "We’re a small team but that means we know each other well and can rely on each other. It’s great having such a culturally diverse mix of backgrounds and it makes life even more interesting. You learn a lot from one another and we’re constantly broadening our horizons. Berlin is very international, great in summer and you just fall in love with it, just like the people who live here already have, it’s like no other city in Germany."
So there you have it, a whistle stop tour of Germany and if this little insight has given you the appetite for more, take a look to see the roles that are currently available there.
