Established by the founders of SThree, our global CSR commitments are fundamental to who we are and our development for the future. We aspire to help individuals, organisations and the economy to prosper across our three core commitments - community, workplace and the environment. This year alone, we have already seen a variety of initiatives that have been carried out globally and regionally – all for a good cause.
As a business we have set ourselves various goals including the target of reducing our carbon footprint by 10% by 2025. Our largest emissions relate to business travel and our use of electricity. You can read about some of the ways we are working together to reduce our emissions here.
Transforming lives through skills and making CSR opportunities accessible for all
We encourage everyone at SThree to embrace the theme of “Transforming lives through skills and work”. We believe that by sharing one’s skills, you are not only able to build careers but also support the change of someone’s life for the better.
To encourage our employees to participate actively, we have implemented two days of paid leave that our staff can take to volunteer as part of SThree’s company policy since the start of 2019.
What is APAC doing as a region?
Globally as a business, we partner with African Science Academy (ASA) –a girls-only Advanced Level school for math and science, opened by the African Gifted Foundation in 2016. The African Gifted Foundation is a charity determined to provide an opportunity for Africa’s gifted children to develop to their full potential.
To generate interest and raise awareness about ASA, we have formed a CSR committee for the APAC region and together organised a number of events both internally and externally for our clients, candidates and their close families. There are various activities and events that offices in APAC have initiated which you can read more about here.
Particularly in the last two months, the region has collectively organised sales days, food drives, potluck lunches and even barbeque parties to encourage donations to this cause.
SThree Singapore – Tioman Island Crown of Thorns (COTs) and Beach Clean Up
Divers from our Singapore team, Lee Yon, Credit Control Officer, and See Xuan Bin, Recruitment Consultant, have spent their two day CSR volunteering leave to participate in the International Coastal Clean Up Day on 21st September.
COTs are a breed of starfishes that feed on hard corals and are a burgeoning threat to the marine reefs in the Indo-Pacific region. The team kept COT outbreaks in check by injecting them with vinegar.
SThree Australia – Bondi Beach Clean Up
SThree Sydney had a great afternoon on one of the Fridays in September cleaning up Bondi Beach as part of their two days of CSR volunteering leave. Armed with rubber gloves and large garbage bags, the team walked the length of Bondi Beach – from the water’s edge to the top of the beach, including parkland areas and did an amazing job of collecting nine bags of rubbish. This even garnered the attention of the park-goers and made them aware of what they too can do to protect the environment.
Some members of the Australia team shared,
“We are fortunate enough to live and work close to a number of beautiful beaches here in Australia. To take a step towards making a difference and conserving the local environment and stunning beaches, we were lucky enough to take a half day on Friday to team up and collect rubbish on Australia’s iconic Bondi Beach. We all enjoyed playing our part in helping to protect and care for the environment as an office. We will also continue to be mindful of how small steps can make a big difference. Thank you to SThree for encouraging us to do so.” – Amy Jacquemart, Senior Recruitment Consultant.
“I’m so glad that I got involved in Sydney’s CSR activity to clean up Bondi beach. It felt brilliant to clean up our beaches and do something for not only the community but also towards a much bigger cause. It was the first but definitely not the last time I will be doing this.” – Jessica Swann, Client Relationship Manager.
“Climate change is one the biggest threats that we have globally. Hence, it was a fruitful opportunity to spend an afternoon cleaning up the beach. The amount of rubbish that we collected in an afternoon was quite astounding, knowing that it could all end up in the ocean. It does go to show that if everyone banded together to make small changes, it could have a huge impact.” – Christian Vanezi, Senior Recruitment Consultant.
The region is also looking ahead to planning more initiatives in the following months, with a Family Movie event supporting local charities, Charity Partners’ Sales Training day run by our very own Learning and Development Team, as well as themed Sales Days.
