Recruitment teams across the world come into work with the motivation to change the lives of others and help them find their dream job. One of our recruiters who is doing this day in and day out is Saskia Richmond.
Saskia, a Recruitment Consultant in Amsterdam at Progressive Global Energy, part of the SThree Group, has been helping her candidates find the right job for five years now. Recruiting mainly for environmental roles, Saskia understands the importance of raising awareness for issues such a climate change and helping her candidates find jobs that will help solve some of the world’s most challenging environmental issues.
In her job as a recruiter for environmental roles, Saskia never realised she would get to know so many different people and cultures. “It really taught me a lot about the world which I never thought was possible working as a recruiter,” she says.
“Besides finding the right chemistry between candidates and clients, I am passionate about helping companies to enable their environmental goals and helping candidates develop and progress in their career.”
“I am always eager to show my candidates and clients that I care about their reputation and mine. I would rather go for a long term relationship than a quick fix. I also never knew I would learn so much about the industries I work in. My candidates want a recruiter that they can level with and often share their knowledge with. That teaches me a lot,” she says.
“I feel really satisfied and happy when a company or candidate compliments me on my work. Sometimes, I feel like I can make a difference to people’s careers, especially for expatriate roles and very senior management level positions. Those roles are hard to find without the right up-to-date network or to be selected for without any extra help. A specialised recruiter can really benefit you in this case.”
My favourite placement
“A couple of years ago I was recruiting for an environmental windmill specialist. The position was open for more than a year and the company was desperate. Their whole research and development department had problems achieving their goals. Finally, I found them the windmill specialist they were looking for.”
“He started working and created a special composite which meant a huge improvement in the world of alternative energy. Every time when I go to the beach and see an offshore windmill park I think about it.”
“Of course, I am also very happy when candidates find their dream job. I often stay in touch with candidates and visit them when they started working at their new place. It is a big compliment for me when they invite me to their first promotion party and become a new hiring manager,” she says.
