or eight years now, SThree has been actively supporting our fundraising partner SOS Children’s Villages, raising close to £1M for children in need around the world.
One project which is especially close to our hearts is supporting the SOS Chipata Village in Zambia, where SThree, amongst many things sponsors a house which is home for eight orphans.
We are proud to announce that we have now funded an army truck and a spares truck for the Village which arrived in Chipata in the first week of July. The trucks, chosen to be able to deal with the challenging terrain, were purchased in the UK and then transported all the way to Zambia!
There was much excitement in the Village as the trucks arrived after their long journey, having been shipped from the UK to Namibia and then transported overland to Zambia.
The trucks are now being painted and converted into a mobile medical unit that will address the health needs of children and adults in the rural areas around Chipata.
A huge thanks to employees across the globe who contributed to the £40k required to make this transformational project happen.
The need for a vehicle fit for purpose
Chipata Medical Trucks
Over the last few years, our CEO Gary Elden OBE and four other employees visited the Chipata Village and became aware of the huge healthcare needs of the local population.
Children and adults living in the remote areas around Chipata currently have very limited access to healthcare provision and basic medicines.
The previous medical bus sometimes got stuck along the bumpy tracks so there was a high need for new vehicles that would be fit for purpose.
Other Chipata projects
We’ve been a long-standing partner for the Chipata Village, a support which started several years even before the Village opened in October 2013.
During this time, we have been involved in various projects to support the Village and the surrounding communities, including:
• Constructed buildings including the ‘SThree House’ which we still sponsor
• Provided computer tablets for the local primary school with a solar charging unit
• Supplied uniforms, books, and covered school fees
• Provided educational resources for the primary school and kindergarten, as well as medical supplies and healthcare
• Purchased sports equipment and built a playground
• Invested in micro-enterprises and family strengthening programmes
• Created vocational training places at the Chipata Trades Institute
Thanks again to everyone at SThree for the continued support for all these amazing projects!
