At SThree we don’t just find candidates for our clients, we begin lifelong relationships based on mutual trust. The same goes for our employees.
While we recognise that at times our people will want to pursue opportunities elsewhere, we never lose touch with them. People just like Laura Poblete and Christophe Zwaenepoel, who both returned to SThree.
Read on to find out why they came back.
Laura joined SThree in 2007 as a performance coach, in what constituted a career change for her: “They took a punt on me,” says Laura. “I had only done ad-hoc performance coaching at that stage but they knew I knew recruitment and took a punt would I be good at this as well.” She was.
“That’s one of the great things about SThree, they give you the opportunity to be a success. If you’re in the organisation and doing well they will develop you.”
Laura left in 2009, but kept in touch with her old colleagues: “They gave me my first break, I enjoyed my time there, so I still felt a certain amount of loyalty towards SThree,” she explains. “I would speak to them regularly, they would tell me what they were looking for and I could see if I could help them find someone.”
In 2015, that person was Laura. An opportunity had opened up for a Global Strategic Project Manager for Learning and Development in London, something which Laura’s skills and experience was perfectly suited towards.
“I’m now in a position where I’m taking the lead in the strategic L&D projects that we are delivering against SThree’s strategy,” says Laura. “We are working on changing our whole onboarding process. SThree has always had a good reputation for its training. Traditionally most firms tend to save coaching for the leaders of the organisation but here we believe the opposite, we’re investing heavily in our new starters giving them the maximum support they need to succeed, which includes coaching.”
“It’s been really interesting to me having a lot of free reign and actually changing the way we do things. The team has changed dramatically in terms of what we offer and how we offer it.”
In 2003, Christophe had spent four years working in Germany as a sales consultant in SThree’s specialist IT brand, Computer Futures, before he left to pursue different opportunities. Whilst he was successful in his new venture, there were certain aspects of SThree that Christophe could never quite find anywhere else. He takes up the story:
“During my time away from SThree I learned a lot, but I came to the conclusion that I was learning only by doing; things that were not so good I tried to change, but we had no sophisticated tools available to us at that time unlike SThree.”
Keeping in touch
Like Laura, Christophe had kept in touch with his former colleagues (“we’re like a family that meets up to catch up every now and again,”) and in 2008, seized the opportunity to set up new offices for SThree in Hamburg.
“It was the start of really growing that business faster. In Germany, 2009 wasn’t economically the best year to kick something off. There was quite some pressure, but we had a good team and a good vision; everybody knew what the goal was.”
“In 2010, when the market started picking up, we went through the roof.”
Christophe’s team won SThree Team of the Year 2011: “We had one of the fastest growing contract books and after that, consistent growth since our second year of operation.”
“We are now working on new market opportunities in the Nordic region, it’s really exciting. We’ve got a great structure here, strong key account managers that have joined the business and I must say I think 2016 is going to be great!”
