Connor Schwab joined our San Francisco Team from Specialist Staffing Group (the US division of SThree plc) in January 2015, as a recent college graduate. We chatted to him about how he found the transition from college life to a full-time role in the recruitment industry.
Friendship
The friendships that he forged working at Specialist Staffing Group made the start of his career that much easier. “It was tough; moving from college to the ‘real world’ is definitely a jolt to the system. Fortunately, my team reminded me a lot of my former school classmates which added a personal touch to the experience.”
Team work
Connor Schwab, Senior Consultant, San Francisco
Connor speaks a lot about his team and their impact on his happiness and success at work. “Our team is like a family. They help pick me up in my slumps and help celebrate my achievements. I love coming to work and seeing them every day.”
It’s not all about work though; Connor has also shared great experiences with his colleagues outside the office. “As a team we went on incentive trips together, gone out for brunches and had game days in the park.”
Building relationships
For Connor, one of the highlights of working in recruitment is the opportunity to build and develop lasting relationships with his candidates and clients. “I believe that friendships are stronger than business relationships so I’m trying to meet my clients outside the office as much as possible. This makes the job really enjoyable.”
Career progression
As an employer we know how important it is for our employees to be aware of the opportunities and rewards available to them. We want employees joining our teams to be able to drive their career and reach their career aspirations; and Connor is no exception.
He and his manager agreed on clear goals allowing him to understand and follow defined steps to a successful career progression. “There is incredible potential to advance your career. The company clearly defines your promotion targets and paths so your goals are easily attainable.”
Perks
Our US offices also offer great perks and Connor has been able to take advantage of the flextime program offered in San Francisco. “Flex is great. It allows me to accommodate for the little things in life; whether it’s taking part in a fitness class, getting a haircut, or just sleeping for an extra hour in the morning. It helps coordinate my crazy schedule.”
