We speak to Associate Recruitment Consultant, Luke Sheehy, about his transition from studying to the working world.
‘Before I joined SThree I was completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, and I was working as a part-time warehouse operative at DHL. I was lucky enough to get some experience in a recruitment environment during my internship within an IT consultancy, which helped me decide I wanted to go straight into recruitment once I completed my degree.’
Luke joined SThree brand, Computer Futures in Dublin, seven months ago and is enjoying every minute of it.
‘From reading the job description and doing some research into SThree as a company I became aware of what can be achieved working for SThree. I’m enjoying every minute of my role as Associate Recruitment Consultant working in the Big Data and Analytics market. Data Scientist positions are beginning to incorporate a lot of predictive modelling and machine learning. This has huge potential for companies trying to gain insight into their customer data. This is probably the hottest and most interesting market to be in at the moment, and I’m lucky enough to be building out a market here in Dublin.’
Luke credits his success at SThree to date, to the learning and development programme offered by the company, ‘I feel the training provided at the beginning of my career was really comprehensive and helped me to achieve what I have in such a short time. Considering I had no previous sales experience, I knew I would be stepping outside of my comfort zone and it would be a challenge but the training has really been beneficial for me. And the good thing about the training is that it never stops. If you are struggling in a particular area there is always someone who has been there before and will give you time and advice. I have no doubt that this will always be the case progressing in my career. It’s really exciting to see the level you can get to with the training that is provided.’
Luke also appreciates the company’s approach to a healthy work/life balance. As he plays high level football, he has other commitments to accommodate and he appreciates the ability to be able to balance that with work.
And what is it about working in Dublin that he loves so much? ‘The office culture is very positive. Everyone is always there for you. The location is perfect – being near lots of bars is a plus for team nights out!’
