Despite getting her Masters in Criminology, Jayantie Seosahai decided to embark on a career in recruitment. Hailed as the Queen of Quality at Global Enterprise Partners, one of SThree Group’s brands, she’s become a valuable forerunner in creating the best customer experience. Read on as she tells her story.
Tell us a little more about the industry you focus on
We have divided the team into different industries, and I‘m part of the Retail desk and Head of the SAP Hybris practice. Hybris is an e-Commerce/omni-channel solution that helps businesses go through a digital transformation.
What motivates you?
At Global Enterprise Partners, there’s no such thing as a regular job; because everyone is essentially their own boss. You’re kind of responsible for your own little business and that's exactly what motivates me.
There’s also a lot more to it than a standard sales job. In fact, selling’s probably about 25% of what your job entails. The rest of your time is spent meeting your customers, speaking to the specialists in the field, and keeping up to date about the latest trends, news, and technologies.
Why is the part you play in the recruitment process so important?
Together with the specialists, I’m the "eyes and ears" in the field which is important in the recruitment process. Specialists working in the e-Commerce field are very valuable these days, as is time. Being able to understand your customer’s needs can save time and gives you the opportunity to fully take over the recruitment process. Listening is a very important skill for this.. We’re not just recruiters at GEP, we’re consultants in our field of expertise.
How do you feel your role as a recruitment consultant influences people's lives?
I’m always driving to be a role model for colleagues but also for my customers and specialists. I want them to come back to me for advice or recommend me to others. Every step I take in my processes should be of value to my business. I stand for quality. I listen, and I care about the people I work with.
What’s your favourite story?
One of my favourite stories would probably be when I placed someone during my first year here. The client was struggling to find an e-Commerce specialist that needed to be technically strong but also customer facing.
I found a candidate that was a perfect fit and spoke to them multiple times, explaining as much as possible about the role and making sure to meet him before the interview. The client wasn’t immediately convinced but, after my guidance and advice, they decided to go for it. Now, two years later, the candidate I placed is still working there with more responsibilities and is very happy in the role. It was exactly the role he was aiming for!
How has your opinion of recruitment changed?
Honestly, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into – it was a complete career switch coming from a background in Criminology. I just knew I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life reading files and writing papers. Trust me, it’s nothing like CSI! So I was advised to look into recruitment positions and it was the best tip I ever got.
It’s a great first job where you learn a lot of competencies; especially when you’re recruiting in a global industry, dealing with a lot of different stakeholders and complex processes here at Global Enterprise Partners. This means that there is more to the job than you probably think. It’s a career with a lot of opportunity to grow and where you can be very successful.
