Manjit’s stellar journey with SThree
When Manjit joined SThree, she was one of the first people to set up the Real Staffing business – the pharmaceutical specialist arm of SThree Group in Singapore, along with Mark O’Halloran, Senior Business Manager at Real Staffing.
Over the last seven years, Manjit was promoted seven times. This has come with a lot of hard work and key milestones including:
- Billing a million pounds in her first 4 years
- Attending a number of club lunches and 7 incentive trips
- Winning 4 industry awards including Best Recruitment Consultant
- Advocating for the SThree Women Leadership Programme called Identify
- Featuring amongst the Top 25 consultants globally
However, Manjit’s career has not always been smooth sailing. Like many people, she experienced the ups and downs and at times she would find it challenging closing deals and would struggle with low volume jobs. However, she remained positive throughout and focused on actionable building blocks such as booking meetings with candidates and clients and working with candidates to improve their CVs. In this process, she realised that recruitment is a learning curve and that there is always something new to work on. We highly applaud Manjit for her resilience and her work ethic which led her to where she is now – managing a team of 10 consultants and taking on a senior role as a business leader.
Finding the right balance between career and quality family time
Aside from building a successful career at SThree, Manjit also started a family of her own. In September 2018, she gave birth to a baby girl named Sienna and describes her as “the most beautiful present I could ever ask for”. Manjit shared that “when I became a parent, every decision-making process involved my family and every responsibility I took on had a whole new level of commitment. Sienna made me realise that the time management is crucial. Time is precious and I ensure that I give my 100% to all my commitments including productivity at work, ‘Sienna-time’ at home and my social life. Priorities change but time is a constant in our lives so why not be in charge.”
Balancing the duties of a new family together with a successful career is not an easy task but Manjit is thankful that SThree helped her transition back to work easier through flexible working hours and the genuine care and support she gets from HR and managers. Manjit added that “I was able to work-from-home and this showed that management trusted my ability to still deliver results even if I’m not physically in the office, I feel that at SThree, I can have a career with no limits”.
Manjit continues “knowing how to manage my time has enabled me to achieve work-life balance and raise my level of productivity and efficiency. I prioritise what I need to get done first thing in the morning and ensure that I action my to-do list before I leave the office. One day, I hope to be remembered as the leader who inspires and a female role model to many young women who have big dreams and can achieve anything they set their minds to.”
Advocating for gender equity
84% of our employees return to work with us after going on maternity leave. Based on the feedback received, this is mainly due to the support that we have in place for working parents – one of which is our Maternity Buddy Scheme which provides support to the parent during the pregnancy period, maternity leave and back to work.
SThree has also taken its inclusion and diversity initiatives to a global level. Key to our strategy is our IdentiFy Programme, which was designed to support the development and progression of women within our organisation back in 2011. Since then, the representation of female directors and partners at SThree has more than doubled from 4.5% to 12%.
In addition, we recently launched a “People in Culture Group” in each of SThree’s 40 offices worldwide to drive positive change and work towards an inclusive, meritocratic and engaging work environment.
