Senior Partner Kalpesh Baxi has recently celebrated his 20 year anniversary with SThree and is widely known in the business as both a true gentleman and a legend. Read on to hear about his commitment to succeed and the opportunities SThree has given him.
What was your first job at SThree when you joined in 1997?
I joined as a Resourcer for SThree brand Computer Futures in Birmingham on the contract side when the office had only been opened six weeks. I answered an advert in the Birmingham Post – I still have the original!
How did your career develop and what’s your current role?
From there I moved to Computer Futures in Scandinavia and then over to Amsterdam where I lived for three years. This led me to oversee the teams in Holland and Germany.
I came to the UK and joined JP Gray, another one of our SThree brands, when they were first formed and then moved on to run Real’s biggest business in London.
I am now a Senior Partner and responsible for the permanent business for SThree in the UK and Ireland. I’m passionate about customer service and a key part of my role is to look at how we interact with our customers and differentiate ourselves from the competition.
What drives you to be so successful?
Resilience. Every senior person in SThree would have experienced challenges in their career and yes, of course, it’s about taking the opportunities offered to you but it’s also about occasionally stepping sideways or even backwards when something doesn’t work out as planned.
In 2003, I decided to come back to London as my wife and I were expecting our first child. This meant I needed to move from being a Senior Manager to a Principal Consultant. I made the decision to take a step back as I wanted to stay at SThree and believed the company would offer me further opportunities. So, I worked hard and focused on my next career move and before long I was back on track.
Is there anything you would have done differently?
No. I believe we all have positive and negative experiences but there’s no such thing as a bad experience. Things don’t always go to plan so you have to learn from the experience then move on and you’ll usually find that another door will open.
What would you say to people just starting their careers with SThree?
The following four things:
How would you sum up working for SThree?
I work for a great company that is genuinely a market leader who has kept me challenged and given me opportunities most people wouldn’t have in their entire lifetimes.
I’ve been lucky to have worked for, worked with, and continue to work with amazing people that I learn from every day. The great thing is a new person who joins SThree today can teach me as much as my peers across the globe with long SThree careers. It’s a business whose values are in line with my own personal ones, including being customer-centric.
