Sabine Häßler is a Senior IT Recruitment Consultant with SThree in Berlin. After some time in Hamburg she returned to her home town and fell in love with it all over again. She shares her thoughts about working in one of the most dynamic cities in the world and how it’s played a part in her success with SThree.
1. Tell us a little about Sabine Häßler
I’m a Senior Recruitment Consultant at Computer Futures in Berlin. I started my career in Hamburg and moved back to Berlin to build up the new office with my colleagues. Berlin is my home and I grew up here so my roots are here, I even went to university here.
2. So what is it about Berlin?
Berlin is what you’d expect in a big bustling capital city, it’s international and dirty, great during summer and perfect for falling in love. The people who live here, are connected by one similar feeling. I’ve never had a feeling like it in any other city.
It sounds strange but for me Berlin is unconventional, but in conventional sense. It’s different, dynamic, very crazy, but also traditional and old-fashioned. If I didn’t work here I’m sure I would go abroad.
3. What is so great about being a specialist IT recruiter for SThree in Berlin?
We’re a small team and have been working together for a long time now. We know each other very well and trust each other. The diverse nature of our team with people from various backgrounds make every day interesting and exciting because we learn a lot from each other and as an individual I get to constantly expand my own horizons.
Right from the beginning of my career at SThree I got lots of responsibility. That means that as a Senior Recruitment Consultant I’m not only responsible for the placement but also being a role model and providing support for new employees.
I provide my colleagues with training and help as best as I can. This has particularly intensified since I’ve been promoted. I am also very excited about having my first trainee in autumn this year.
A big change for me that came with my promotion is being more integrated in the business strategy and plans, especially in regards to internal job interviews, trainings and general questions.
4. Why did you choose SThree as your employer?
I decided to join SThree because of the diverse development opportunities within the company. I had a really good first impression of SThree during the application process. I had a great time right from the beginning and the feeling that I would fit very well with the team. The atmosphere in the office was amazing. This was one of the main reasons why I didn’t think twice to join the SThree family.
5. What does being a Senior Recruitment Consultant mean day-to-day?
My daily tasks revolve around building and retaining relationships with my clients and candidates.
My work involves contacting candidates and customer acquisition, conducting job interviews and negotiations with customers especially to contractual issues. I don’t follow a daily routine because every day offers new challenges. Every day is unique because we work together with people with individual needs, wishes and emotions.
6. What three words would you use to describe SThree?
The first word that comes to my mind is “Diversity” because we have people from such different backgrounds and nationalities who all bring their own flavour to the group.
On the other hand I also think about our “Opportunities” and “Possibilities”, professional and private. You have the chance to achieve things and develop really quickly in your team. Everybody starts with a mentor that takes you by the hand, promotes and helps you with your daily business and targets.
I know I’m using more than three words if I add this but the phrase “school of life” comes to mind. You constantly learn at Computer Futures and you’re encouraged to question things and try new ways of doing things.
You don’t get stuck in a boring day to day job. You want to achieve your goals for your own sake, your team and company. These are the things that come to mind when I think of SThree and its brands.
