SThree’s purpose is to bring skilled people together to build the future. Bringing people together in person may be a little more difficult right now, but that doesn't stop us uniting together to support local communities.
Across the UK, our people are coming together to make a difference - you can take a look at some of our initiatives below.
Liz is an Associate Business Manager for Computer Futures in Manchester, managing the public sector team which supplies interim professionals to the NHS and Housing Associations. This has given her a great insight into the NHS, which she cares deeply about. Her support for the NHS goes beyond her role at SThree, and came into sharp focus with the progression of the Coronavirus pandemic in the UK. It all started with a WhatsApp Group. Some of our colleagues in Glasgow were able to use their volunteering hours recently to help one of our charity partners – Refuweegee – to decorate their new office. Refuweegee helps welcome people to the city when they have been forced to leave their own homes and countries. The charity provides refugees who have arrived in Glasgow with welcome packs including clothing, food, homeware, toys and games amongst other means of support. Selina and her team were super welcoming to our SThree volunteers and were really grateful for their assistance.
CSR takes shape in various forms across SThree - find out more and learn about all the ways you can get involved.
Our employees can use two paid working days to volunteer, with a main focus on ‘Employability and Aspiration’ to nurture the career development of young people. One of our initiatives is to run workshops to build the attendees’ confidence and skills to find a job. Mital Jethwa, Recruitment Consultant at SThree, loved leading one of these workshops: “Being able to do this as part of your work makes SThree stand out from other employers. It helped me build my confidence and strengthen my ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people.”
We’re very proud of the fact that our people get involved in arranging and overseeing placements for young people from underprivileged backgrounds, ranging from work experiences to apprenticeships which can even lead to permanent employment. Every year we take on a new cohort of apprentices to provide them with meaningful paid employment while they work towards an NVQ qualification. We also fund bursaries for university students, with a focus on STEM subjects. Every scholar is invited to visit our SThree offices and take up work experience.
Our people lead a range of fundraising initiatives including sports tournaments, dress down days and personal challenges to raise money for SOS Children's Villages and help reach our £1m target for the10th anniversary in 2018. Additionally, SThree matches fundraising up to £50k per year. As part of our partnership with SOS Children we’re sponsoring a house in Zambia providing a home for seven orphans, funding scholarships for African students who grew up in SOS Children Villages and nurturing local partnerships with SOS Children in Germany and the US.
We’re aware of our responsibility as a global organisation to play our part in preserving our planet. That’s why we conduct an annual carbon footprint exercise to monitor our environmental impact and meet legal obligations. We offset our carbon emissions by investing in renewable energy projects. We also continuously explore new ways to increase efficiency across the organisation to reduce costs, emissions, waste and ensure our employees' time is used effectively by giving them access to Virtual Meeting Rooms.
We look after our people and made Diversity and Inclusion, Developing Talent, and Employee Engagement core parts of our business. We want to make sure our people’s voices are heard. That’s why we make them part of our annual conferences, launched Employee NPS to capture feedback and nurture various forums. We’re proud that our achievements in employee engagement, service delivery and diversity have been recognised externally by winning awards such as APSCo Awards for Excellence, Top Employer and The Times Top 50 Employers for Women.
Every year, we play our part in supporting a range of communities. Download our most recent CSR report to find out more about what this means.
