I was an out and out science student. I’ve always been fascinated by subjects like Genetics Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics. But that’s not all I’m about, I‘m also passionate about public speaking and debating. Therefore, I always felt inclined towards making a career out of my communicative and assertive skills.
Before I got into this role I was oblivious to the magnitude and scale of the recruitment industry as a career option. That soon changed. I joined Huxley Associates as a Temporary Resourcer.
July this year was my first anniversary here. When I first arrived, I had no work experience. Originally, I planned to work for six months and then pursue my MBA plans. I guess I caught the bug! I got my first deal and it went from there. The career development opportunities and the daily challenges thrown at me just lured me in!
My first deal was a retainer. It taught me a lot. It introduced me to working under pressure, time management skills, perseverance and my manager’s mantra: "We are the Mercedes Benz of the recruitment industry. We never cut corners".
Working with top-tier banks and interacting with the cream of the industry has always enticed me. So my high point so far was when my Manager trusted me to manage the account for Goldman Sachs. It was my job to ensure only quality candidates reached them. The sense of responsibility and faith I felt really motivated me.
I am still new to the business and have a long way to go. The going has been good so far though. I am one deal away from my second promotion in one year. Fingers crossed!
A lot of this job is about spinning as many plates as you can and working at pace. Early on, I struggled with time management and often found myself running from pillar to post. My manager helped me overcome this with simple processes like sticking to a daily planner and working on every job like a project. It really helped me turn around the problem.
Being one of the first employees in the region, I see myself a future Senior Member of the Banking Technology team. I want to head-up a new part of the business in the near future.
I’ve been through all the standard SThree training and Induction sessions. These have laid the foundation on which I’ve built my understanding of the industry. They helped me understand all the tools and systems available to me and why we have certain processes in place.
The live training sessions conducted by my Manager also had a great impact on me. Presentations on Candidate qualification, Candidate closing, Client canvassing and Client meetings have been very rewarding.
The culture here is what made me stick with the job at first. It always inspires me to reach for new heights. The organization recognises, acknowledges and nurtures talent. Everyone here, whatever the level, is given equal opportunities to reach the pinnacles they want to.
My office environment is great. Work is actually fun! Somehow we always find ourselves running against time. The weekly night-outs are definitely well-earned at the end of each “roller-coaster” week. I haven’t been on a Lunch Club yet – I’m working on that though! Come back to me! I’ve been on many nights out with the team and they’ve been some of my most memorable experiences here.
SThree’s values of Rapport, Energy, Respect and Reward give me a lot of pride in the company. I see each of these being upheld every day in various ways. For me, it’s what makes SThree unique.
To work here you need to have a desire to push yourself and learn every day. For the self-motivated individual, this company provides one-of-a-kind opportunities.
