Before I joined SThree, I studied International Marketing at The Norwegian School of Management in Stavanger and had a part time job as Collection Advisor at GE Money Bank.
I had some knowledge on recruitment as a couple of summer jobs I had came through recruitment agencies. I was referred to SThree through my friend’s brother who worked for Huxley Associates in Manchester. Through him I had heard great things about working for SThree. The holiday targets, lunch clubs, great commission scheme and the opportunity to develop a career. I also saw the chance of being apart of opening a brand new office in Norway as really exciting, so when I got the chance to interview, the choice was easy.
My first few months as a recruitment consultant went nearly as expected. There was loads of new information/knowledge to get my head around and I was all over the place canvassing clients and sourcing candidates. I was working on a brand new market that no one in my brand had worked before, so I spent a lot of time building up the candidate database.
The market turned out to be hard to crack into due to a candidate driven market and spoiled clients not used to compete with others for candidates. Eventually I got an exclusive job and after a month of sourcing candidates, I made my first Placement. The candidate got offered with another company so dropped out. A hard start, but nothing to cry over. I decided to work hard to find new candidates and replaced the job a couple of weeks later.
Having a drop out is probably the worst low you can get as a recruitment consultant. There will always be highes and lows, but the highes are higher than the lows.
After opening the Norway Office in January 2012, things picked up and more deals came in. The time I spent in the first 6 months on sourcing candidates and building up a good network, finally paid off.
I enjoy working at SThree, every day at work is different and I really like being apart of a fantastic team.
My goals for the future is climbing the career ladder and some day get the chance to open a new office at a different location in Norway or another country in Scandinavia.
As a Trainee Recruitment Consultant you get 6 days of training the first 6 Months. These days are held by SThree’s own Learning & Development department. This is very helpful and also great fun. I had training with other consultants from different brands around the country. This gives you the chance to meet new people who are on the same stage in their career as you and is also a great place to share your thoughts and views.
Along the way you will get training sessions held by either your manager or one of the senior consultants in your office.
Before I moved back to Norway with our new office, I was based in Manchester. The atmosphere there was amazing and very competitive. When you hear your colleagues celebrating a deal or getting a job in, it gives you great motivation to work even harder. You are also surrounded by successful consultants who are a great inspiration and provide you with many useful tips. They have all been a Trainee Consultant, so it’s great motivation to see how far you can go. We had competitions/theme days which were great fun and it usually ends with a team night out.
I’ve reached one lunch club so far and I can’t wait to attend. I heard stories from colleagues who have been and they sound like great fun. Being wined and dined on the company is definitely one of the perks of the job!
