I studied Law and Economics in Madrid, Paris and New York. After completing my studies I headed to Madrid and joined Citibank as a Management Associate. It was here that I was given the opportunity to work in the Middle East. I happily accepted.
I’ve always been in touch with recruitment companies – more as a client though, especially while I was at Citibank. It’s a sector that’s always interested me. A good friend of mine is the Director of an International firm in Spain. He’s always spoken about the role of a Recruitment Consultant, but when I had the offer to join his organisation, I decided to stick with Citibank. I wanted more experience in the banking sector. It was after the credit crunch that I decided it was a good moment to reassess. I followed up my interest in Recruitment. I knew I could add value to any organisation after five years working in Madrid and Dubai for Citibank.
I joined Huxley Associates Qatar in June 2010. I started out as a trainee consultant for the banking team in Doha. After eight months I was promoted to Senior Consultant.
It wasn’t easy at first: hard work and long hours. And my first four offers didn’t become deals! All for different reasons, all very frustrating! I now know that this was a character building time. It gave me the strength, experience and knowledge I needed to start getting results. Nine months later, I was the top biller in the Middle East and the fastest consultant to become a senior. Now I’m leading a team of three banking consultants in an exciting emerging market. I love mentoring my team; helping them to develop their skills and trying to make them the best in SThree.
I think my proudest moment so far has to be billing over £100,000 from one client –Commercial Bank of Qatar. It was a long process. I started by identifying numerous managers at CBQ and adding them to the system. I added 136 people altogether. Then I pitched, met and mailshot them repeatedly. It was 281 mailshots in total, including single mailshots to multiple managers. The hard work definitely paid off!
Like any other job, you have ups and downs. You’ve just got to learn from your mistakes and keep on going! Resilience is the key to success.
As my career here progresses, I see myself opening new offices around the globe, running the most successful teams and making even more money for SThree and myself!
Since I joined I’ve had constant training from my Manager and the Training Team here at SThree. Of course, the best training is being surrounded by successful recruitment individuals and learning from them on a daily basis. My managers in Dubai and Doha have so much experience; they’ve taught me a lot.
There’s no doubt that the training I received when I joined has been the base of my successful career. But it’s not just about the training you get when you join: Sthree is an environment where you will be learning all the way through your career.

In the Doha office, we live by the Group’s core values: energy, rapport, respect and reward. This goes into our treatment of everyone – co-workers, clients and candidates. We’re now in a new office; previously we worked remotely from Dubai. But when you’re in an emerging market like this, you need to be in a fast-paced environment, right in the heart of the action. The best way to describe working at Huxley Associates Doha is: high standards, high energy, high performance and lots of fun.
I’ve been lucky to go on several Lunch Clubs in Dubai and I’ve got my first one in Doha next week – I can’t wait. As for the nights out with the Dubai and Doha team...well, what can I say...Epic!
